The Country music community was out in full force at last night's ACM Awards, and so was the Big Machine Label Group. Kicking off the night's wins, Eli Young Band took home the coveted Song of the Year honors for their platinum smash "Crazy Girl." Taylor Swift ended the night taking home the show's biggest honor, Entertainer of the Year, which is fan-voted.

In addition to big wins, BMLG artists made a number of appearances throughout the night's show. The one and only Reba McEntire shared hosting honors with Blake Shelton, and the duo provided no shortage of comic relief in between performances and award presentations. The Band Perry performed their new single "Postcard from Paris," Rascal Flatts and Steve Martin teamed up for "Banjo," and Brantley Gilbert rocked the house with "Country Must Be Country Wide." Another special moment featured Martina McBride's performance of "Marry Me" with Train's Pat Monahan as a couple tied the knot on stage.

Big Night for BMLG at the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards

    February 13, 2012 0 Comments

Though last night's GRAMMY Awards ceremony was undoubtedly cloaked in somber reverence for the recently passed vocal legend Whitney Houston, the evening still served as one of the year's best celebrations of music and its creators. That said, it was a big night for the Big Machine.

Before the show even began, BMR artist Taylor Swift collected two GRAMMYs-- "Best Country Song" and "Best Country Solo Performance"-- for "Mean," off 2010's blockbuster hit Speak Now. In Taylor's own words, "This one really means a lot to me because this is for a song called 'Mean' that I wrote," she said in her acceptance speech. "There's really no feeling quite like writing a song about someone who's really mean to you, and someone who completely hates you and makes your life miserable -- and then winning a Grammy for it." Congratulations, Taylor!

Later in the evening, Reba looked stunning as she introduced a performance by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson. Earlier today, Reba commented on the importance of this year's ceremony, posting on her Facebook page, "I think we were all a little more aware that we could be gone in an instant and to take advantage of the time we all have together."

In another special introduction/performer pairing, Nashville duo The Civil Wars performed a snippet of their song "Barton Hollow" (which won a GRAMMY earlier in the evening) before introducing Taylor Swift's theatrical, passionate performance of "Mean." Taylor and the Civil Wars collaborated on the track "Safe and Sound," which is featured on the soundtrack for the movie The Hunger Games.

Taylor's final moment on last night's GRAMMY stage was to pass the performance torch to fellow BMLG artists The Band Perry, who performed a lively version of Glen Campbell's "Gentle on My Mind" in tribute to the legendary country crooner, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The Band Perry also joined Campbell and Blake Shelton on stage for a version of Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" that had everyone dancing in the aisles.

We couldn't be prouder of our artists and the hard work and talent they put into their music, and we're happy the GRAMMYs allowed us to share a taste of that last night.

A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. UPDATE: Taylor Swift Named Billboard Woman of the Year

    December 2, 2011 0 Comments

    UPDATE:

Billboard's 2011 Woman of the Year Event was a wonderful time for Big Machine Label Group! In addition to honoring the career of Big Machine Records artist Taylor Swift, BMLG's own VP of Sales, Marketing and Interactive Kelly Rich was honored as one of the event's music industry Women in Music finalists. Congratulations, Taylor and Kelly!

Visit the Billboard Women in Music homepage for more information, and for a re-cap of Billboard's live interview between Taylor Swift and Katie Couric at the Women in Music event.

ORIGINAL STORY: TAYLOR SWIFT NAMED BILLBOARD WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Taylor Swift, the four-time Grammy winner and biggest selling albums artist in any genre for the past 12 months, has been chosen to receive the coveted Woman of the Year Award at the 2011 Billboard Women in Music event on Dec. 2 in New York City.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter is the youngest artist to ever receive the honor, and it comes on the heels of earning several 2011 Billboard Music Awards, among them Top Country Album for the five-time platinum selling "Speak Now."

Swift has spent the past year on the Speak Now World Tour in support of her third album, which debuted last October atop the Billboard 200, selling over a million copies in its first week. All 14 tracks on the country-pop juggernaut were composed by Swift, and she made Hot 100 history by charting 11 songs off the album in a single week.

The Pennsylvania native is used to breaking chart records and currently holds another Hot 100 record for most top 10 debuts, with seven. Her self-titled debut, released in 2006, holds the honor of longest-running album in Billboard 200 since 2000.

She followed that up in 2008 with "Fearless," a critically acclaimed set that established her as a skilled songwriter and a procurer of hits, including "Love Story," "You Belong With Me" and "White Horse." Swift's "Fearless" is the longest-running No. 1 album by a female country artist in 200 history. Not surprisingly, the 6-times platinum "Fearless" is the most awarded album in country music history and her overall worldwide sales now exceed 20 million albums and 40 million song downloads. Again, she's only 21.

"Taylor has shown the power of good songwriting with music that has transcended genres, and we're thrilled to recognize all of her successes over the past year by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award," says Bill Werde, Billboard's Editorial Director. "At the young age of 21, Taylor has already made a major impact on music and has been an incredible role model for aspiring singers/songwriters and young women everywhere. I look forward to watching her career continue to flourish in the years to come."

Taylor Swift Announces 'Speak Now' Live CD/DVD

She is currently nominated for six 2011 CMA Awards including Entertainer of the Year, and is readying the November release of the CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray sets of her Speak Now World Tour.

Swift is a dedicated and prolific philanthropist as well, and has lent her time and efforts to raise money for causes ranging from clean water to literacy to disaster relief. She personally donated $1 million to charities in the past year alone.

Billboard's annual Women in Music Event, now in its sixth year, celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business, coinciding with the publication of Billboard's Women in Music Power Players list. This year's event will be taking place on Friday, Dec. 2 at Capitale in New York City. Last year's honor went to Black Eyed Peas singer, Fergie.
